Here are my top tips for healthy kids picnic food – so you can have fun and not worry about the kids eating junk alfresco!
Commissioned post.
I love having family picnics. Whether it’s in the garden or we go on an adventure, it’s fun to dine al fresco. It’s easy to make sure that you pack healthy kids picnic food, so here are my top tips!
Healthy Kids Picnic Food Ideas
1. Food on sticks
Kids just love food on sticks, don’t they? Put some healthy veggies on skewers and they’re suddenly much more appealing for children. I always pack a pot of hummus as well and make the skewers as colourful as possible. For a treat, I often thread strawberries onto chocolate biscuit sticks.
2. Keep hydrated
Ensure kids stay hydrated the healthy way, with naturally flavoured water. We often use sparkling water and add some sliced strawberries and mint. The kids think they’re getting a treat, but it’s healthy!
3. Pack individual lunches to cut waste
So that we don’t end up over-catering the picnic, I usually put the kids’ meals into individual lunch boxes. They like having their own personal buffet and it cuts down on arguments over who gets the last strawberry!
4. Pack a healthy treat
Avocado chocolate dip is healthy and perfect to put into a sealable container for a picnic dip with fruit skewers.
5. Make healthy choices at the shops
The supermarket aisles are full of junk, so I always turn to Organix Goodies. They might be aimed at children younger than mine (aged 5 and 7), but my kids love them and I love that they’re organic and have no nasty ingredients.

Sounds like the perfect picnic to me and I’m not a child. Luckily your kids seem to think you’ve got it right too 😀

These tips are great for adults as well as kids – I think most of us could do to keep them in mind when snacking as it’s so easy to pop into a cafe and buy something full of fat and sugar!
