Enter to win a Ball Jam Maker worth £150. This gadget makes it super-easy to turn fresh fruit into jam in less than half an hour.
Exclusive to Lakeland, the Ball FreshTech Jam & Jelly Maker does what it says on the tin: helping you create your own jams and jellies with ease, automatically controlling the temperature and stirring ingredients. The bowl is dishwasher safe, so cleanup is also a breeze.
The machine comes with a quick start guide and recipe book. There are recipes for various types of jam, from apricot to plum, plus tips and variations such as strawberry and vanilla or strawberry and lemon.
I’ve had a play with this machine, and it is so simple to use. I like that it’s a fantastic way to reduce food waste. If you have a glut of fruit or a few punnets of strawberries that are past their best, then you can quickly turn them into jam to use throughout the year. I will definitely be looking out for reduced fruit all the time now since I can make jam so easily with it and I’ll also be taking the kids foraging for wild blackberries this summer to make into jam, too!
This video shows just how easy the Ball Jam and Jelly Maker is to use.
I made strawberry jam in my machine after seeing some squashy strawberries on the reduced section of my local greengrocers. As soon as I saw them, all sad and sorry looking and only 50p, I knew that they would make a fantastic jam. All I had to do was clean them, remove the stems and squash them up a bit with a potato masher. Then I tipped them into the Ball Jam Maker on top of three tablespoons of pectin. The instructions then said to add 1/2 teaspoon of butter to reduce foaming.
I then turned the machine to the JAM function and four minutes later it beeped at me to add the sugar. The instructions give traditional and reduced sugar ingredients lists, so I went with reduced sugar, adding 2 cups slowly while the machine stirred the ingredients together. After the machine beeped to announce it was finished, I poured the jam into sterilised jars and popped the bowl into the dishwasher. So easy! We now have four jars of lovely fresh homemade jam. I really can’t believe just how easy it was.
