The Coconut Kitchen
This range of premium Thai sauces and kits are all made in Wales, with fresh ingredients and no artificial additives. The brand was borne from the popular and award-winning eponymous restaurant in Wales, and they now focus on creating their range for retail.
Winner of many Great Taste awards, the range has been created by head chef, Preechaya Phetprasert to bring an authentic Thai taste to the UK. They make restaurant quality sauces available for customers to to use at home.
It’s pretty tough to find vegan and vegetarian Thai sauces, since they usually contain fish sauce. But these ones have all the authentic flavour, but are vegan-friendly. Hurrah!
The prize includes:
1 x Thai-style Sweet and Sour Sauce, 250ml
I really like this sauce. It makes it sooo easy to jazz up vegetables and noodles. It has a gentle kick and is packed with flavour. The label has a recipe for Pad Briaw Wann with Vegetables which is vegan. Just add veggies, pineapple, cornflour and coriander and serve with rice or noddles. We tried this and really loved the intense and rich flavours the sauce brought to the veg.
1 x Pak Chong Hot Chilli Sauce, 250ml
If you’re a heat wimp like me, then this jar will last ages! It has a massive kick, but also loads of flavour, likely from the pineapple in the sauce. There’s a non-vegetarian recipe on the bottle, but I’m sure you all know how to use hot sauce as a condiment!
1 x Pad Thai Kit, 240g (Serves 2)
I absolutely love Pad Thai and this kit didn’t disappoint at all. It was really flavourful, with tamarind and white miso and ready in just 10 minutes! It was filling, healthy and bursting with flavour. The recipe on the box can be adapted by substituting tofu for the chicken (as they recommend) and also by just omitting the egg.
3 x Banana Joe Crisps, 23g
These gluten free vegan crisps are made with Hom Tong bananas (they’re higher in fibre and lower in sugar than typical banana varieties). Then they’re cooked with rice bran oil and seasoned. We tried Thai sweet chilli, sea salt and hickory bbq, and although all nice, my favourite was the bbq flavour.
I like that 10% of profits go to Green Net Foundation towards organic, sustainable, fair trade agriculture in support of small scale farmers.
